Clinical Student Intern Job Description
COVID-19 Notice: All services are currently being provided virtually at this time. Some events may happen in person, and this is assessed on a case by case basis. Your comfortability and safety with in-person work are our first priority. Willow House will resume in-person groups, workshops, events, etc. when it is safe to do so. At this time comfortability with technology is a must! Communication skills while working remotely is a must.
Internship Requirements
- Groups are held at multiple locations therefore reliable transportation is required
- Groups meet on two Mondays and three Thursdays a month.
- Start Internship in Fall (mid-late August) and end their internship at the end of May
- Participate in weekly clinical supervision
- Participation in special events or opportunity to represent Willow House in the community (may occur on a weekend)
- Participate in our Facilitator Training (17-hour training)
- Minimum of one hour of clinical supervision per week
Grief Support Groups
- Participate in Family Intakes and Assessments through observation initially and eventually facilitating intakes independently
- Co-facilitating support groups for children and teens who are grieving the death of their mom, dad, sister, or brother
- Assist with planning for support groups
- Participating in pre and post group briefings with all staff and group facilitators
- Learn about the benefits of expressive arts and participate in our Expressive Arts group
- Learn about and participate in our Survivors of Suicide Loss Group
School and Community Outreach and Education
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and other educational forums about Grieving Children, Teens and Families and other related topics presented by staff to schools and other community organizations
- Participate in school services; in particular, consultation sessions and crisis intervention, and co-facilitation of support groups
- Researching and providing resources for community members and others calling for support services
Special Events
- Work with staff in the planning and development of special program events for Willow House families, including but not limited to:
- Annual Holiday Candlelight Remembrance Gathering in November
- Annual Walk & 5k Run to Remember
- Annual Spring Benefit
- Special workshops and psycho-educational events for families
Organizational Opportunities
- Participate in staff and team meetings, as scheduling allows
- Learn about the non-profit structure and interact with Board members
Research & Resource Development
- Ongoing research related to group curriculum, the field of grief and youth, and more, as it pertains to current Willow House projects and/or to the students’ course work
